Edited by F. Meo, Children’s utensils, Fondazione Gicaomini-Meo-Fiorot, 1995
In the section of the Museum regarding the world of childhood, objects used in children’s everyday life are on display. Cots and cradles made of wood or iron, static and rocking cradles, for bedtime or nap-time. Mealtimes are evoked by a group of highchairs while a series of precious prams documents the morning or afternoon walk. Some items are especially rare, dating back to the start of the nineteenth century, and come from foreign countries. The individual items are documented with detailed technical descriptions and a wealth of photographs. Eleventh booklet of Franca Meo’s work “The Women’s Museum” (Fondazione Giacomini-Meo, 1995). Text in Italian and English. Translated by A. Butcher.
“These objects, so concrete (they almost bear the marks of those who used them), together with the dolls and toys, bring back to us the sense of everyday life, cleverly interweaving the imaginary with the real”. Franca Meo
