F. Meo, Domestic Appliances, Fondazione Giacomini-Meo-Fiorot, 1995

There is a wide and highly representative section of appliances used for domestic chores in the Fashion and Costume Museum. The objects on display have different functions: weighing the ingredients when making food; making bread and pasta, powders and mixtures for the kitchen and for health; preserving food and herbs; washing; lighting and cooling equipment.
The booklet presents some of the objects used for different domestic activities with detailed technical descriptions and a wealth of photographs.
Tenth booklet of Franca Meo’s work “The Women’s Museum” (Fondazione Giacomini-Meo, 1995).
Text in Italian and English. Translated by A. Butcher.

“In a world which is now completely mechanised, where innovations succeed each other frenetically and where everything has a very short lifespan, the intention of this section is to give back space and dignity to work tools and objects, now no longer used, but which were once precious companions and allies in the daily life of women and men in the past”. Franca Meo
