Nicla Ghironi, In my mother’s womb, 1997
The story starts with a road accident and a tragic telephone call at night to tell the main character that her adolescent daughter has been seriously injured. This is how the heart-rending pain of a mother explodes, violently brought back to reality and her duties. This situation gives rise to the emotional and existential quest between two creatures. It gives rise to a gestation which is experienced by digging bravely into the subconscious and bringing to light all the sufferings of the past, which lead back to another past suffering that of the relationship with another mother who died when the main character was a girl. This is an intense and profoundly lyrical book which speaks of life by weaving its stories with all the questions which can arise at any time: the intersecting of thoughts and emotions, such as the difficulty of growing up, the pain of living, the difficulty of talking to and understanding different generations. This work presents a woman seeking justice and simplicity who continues to delve into her memory, to ask herself, to check, without taking pleasure in it and without holding back, lucid and dramatic in her emotions and in her truths.
