F. Meo, The Toys, Fondazione Giacomini-Meo-Fiorot, 1995

The booklet offers an introduction to the history of the world of toys paying particular attention to the objects produced in the first half of the Nineteen hundreds. The many pieces present in the collection of the Fashion and Costume Museum are representative of this period and are documented with detailed technical descriptions and a wealth of photographs. These items bear witness to the imagination of skilled craftsmen who, using common materials such as wood, paper, cardboard, paper machè and tin, gave life to toys with rudimental but stimulating mechanisms.
Twelfth booklet of Franca Meo’s work “The Women’s Museum” (Giacomini-Meo Foundation, 1995).
Text in Italian and English. Translated by A. Butcher.

“However it must never be forgotten that the best toy for a child does not depend on its value, its rarity or perfection, but on the intimate contact with things, which they manage to establish, and by the harmonious blend of their imagination, their creative capacity and their manual ability”. Franca Meo
